The CWTR committee is pleased to offer a virtual walk this year.
Details
The walk will take place on Saturday September 12th, 2020 from 1pm-3pm.
Where: your own community or a place that is special to you, it’s virtual so each family can decide how they want to dedicate the time.
How to register: please email your baby(s) name(s) to [email protected] by Wednesday September 9, 2020.
How will the walk work this year?: the idea behind a virtual walk this year is that we are able to safely gather virtually to honor our babies. This is a special time dedicated to all of our families to walk to remember the steps our babies couldn’t take. It is our time to remember, to honor, to celebrate and to connect with one another.
Your special walk can include as many people as you’d each like, as long as we’re following social distancing and recommended guidelines.
Please share photos of your walk on our Facebook page, Calgary Walk to Remember.
While it looks different this year, we can still find a sense of community amongst ourselves. Please reach out to each-other on the photos and let’s talk about our babies… tell us all about them! While we may not be able to have those physical embraces and connections this year, we can use the time to get to know our babies, their names, their story, share a photo that is special to you, a memory, let’s start the conversations!
As a committee, we will send out a mini program the day of that you can watch before the walk, in the comfort of your own home. You may even choose to write your babies name in chalk, make a sign as a family, share a special song, a photo of something that reminds you of them, or you may wish tofind another way that is special and/or unique to you and your family to honor your babies.
Please remember the deadline to email your baby name(s) is Wednesday September 9th, 2020 at 5pm.
Frequently Ask Qustions
What if I’m not able to participate on September 12, 2020 from 1pm-3pm? A: that’s ok! The positive about having a virtual walk this year is that you and your family can complete the walk anytime between now and the 12th. We just ask that you post your photos on September 12th, 2020 and join the online conversation if you’re comfortable, so we can still come together and be there for one another. If it happens to be before the date, please share a photo of your walk and your story if you wish to! We’d love to get to know your angels.
How do I share my photos? A: you can either post them to your page and tag us @calgarywalktoremember, or you can share directly on our page in the comments section of the post on Saturday September 12th, 2020
What if I’m not ready/comfortable in sharing my photos? A: that’s ok too! The walk is meant to be healing for each family, and that looks different for each family. If you do not feel comfortable sharing, please consider walking on Saturday September 12th, 2020 knowing that hundreds of families are walking with you💙
Where do I walk? A: the answer to this is wherever you would like that is special to you, it may be around your community, a quiet park, a special place that reminds you of your baby or brings you peace, it can even be your backyard. Each family has a story and the way each family chooses to do this will be unique to each.
Do I need to bring anything? A: please stay hydrated. The walk can be as short or as long as you wish. You may choose to bring along a memento that reminds you of your angel, you may choose to go alone, as a family, or with other supports who also want to participate. It’s entirely up to each family what your walk will look like, where it will take place, and what you may want to bring with you.
The Calgary Walk to Remember recognizes that these are unprecedented times. Though we had to make the difficult decision to cancel the walk this year, the purpose of our walk is to honor and remember our babies. Our mission is to create a safe space where we can heal amongst others who know our pain. Though the walk may look a little different this year, our committee will do our best to still try to create that sense of community we all need and cherish. We hope that you will join us on Saturday September 12th, 2020 for our first virtual walk.
Covid-19 may be a reality we are faced with this year, but we will not allow it to take away our space for remembering. Thank you for being a part of our Calgary Walk to Remember! We hope you will join the conversation and we can’t wait to see you all on our Facebook page!
